Project Description

The background

Yorwaste is Yorkshire’s local waste provider. Owned by North Yorkshire County Council and City of York Council, Yorwaste manages over half a million tonnes of waste per year and carries out 550,000 trade waste and business waste collections. They employ over 350 staff.

The challenge

Yorwaste needed to upgrade its existing 15-year-old air conditioning system which was no longer fit for purpose and needed a company to carry out this work, without distribution to the company’s regular working day.

They contracted HCS to carry out the work; to remove the existing 7 units and replace with 11 new units.

The solution

Xx of HCS, said: “We worked out that we could fit 11 external units in place of the currently 7 units outside of the double office block.

“We removed the existing units ready to install the new Toshiba upgrades. We made sure that we worked out of hours when carrying out any works which could be deemed disruptive, such as drilling the holes for the brackets.

“We also made sure people working in the office had another space to go to work when we needed to carry out internal works, so that we weren’t interrupting their working day.”

The result

The work was carried out, with little disruption, to brief and well within the timescales allocated and the customer was extremely happy with the result.
